DVD burner woes
Well, my NEC ND-3550A 16x Dual Layer DVD burner finally arrived yesterday and I attempted to install it last night. It was no problem swapping it with my old 4x burner and Windows quietly acknowledged that the new hardware was installed and working with the driver included with the OS. No problem right?

Wrong. When I threw in one of the blank DVD-R disks that my old drive had rejected and brought up Nero, the software refused to recognize that I had a DVD burner installed. The only thing it would let me do was burn a CD image to my harddrive.

The strange thing is that Nero's InfoTool utility has no problem recognizing the drive as being a 16x burner. I even rebooted and uninstalled the hardware several times to no avail. It seems that the drive is installed correctly, but not to Nero's satisfaction. Now, I admit that this is an older version of Nero, but do I really need to upgrade the software to recognize a newer dual layer drive?

I'm starting to feel like the lady that swallowed the fly.

He bought the new software to recognize the drive, he bought the new drive to recognize the media, he bought the new media to burn the...
